Legal Counsel (Commercial)

Introduction/background:

Our client is the £120m UK Division of a €7bn, 40,000 employee European manufacturing group. Based in the West Midlands, the company is the largest company in its field in the UK serving the construction, building and engineering sectors.

The business is organised in to four divisions based across two sites and employs 450 personnel. In support of the company’s strong growth and to further enhance resources of the senior management team, the role of Head of Legal has been newly created to oversee all legal matters affecting the business. This is an excellent opportunity to join a large successful industrial group and build a legal function to manage legal obligations and to ensure the commercial position is maximized. The job role: Legal Counsel

Reporting to: Managing Director

Package: Attractive salary + bonus to 30%, car & comprehensive package

Key tasks

  • Lead a newly created legal function
  • Negotiation & drafting of commercial contracts and agreements
  • Oversee the HR team and handle all employment issues whilst ensuring any new legislation are complied with
  • Handle all insurance & general litigation claims
  • Undertake company secretarial matters and be involved in a range of financial matters affecting the business

Candidate profile

  • A minimum of 3 years PQE preferred, however all promising CVs will be considered
  • Trained and qualified at a recognised commercial practice
  • Have broad understanding of both legal and commercial practices
  • Working experience of commercial law and, ideally, employment law is required
  • This is a broad role and the successful candidate will be willing to provide advice to all business areas
